I began to think of pursuing a BS Business Management degree after my employment was eliminated due to our country’s economic circumstances. I have been enrolled at Western Governors University (WGU) for one term (six months). My friend Rachel has noticed my new routine and how ecstatic I am to be a WGU student, so she has asked questions regarding online courses. I can see that she is anxious therefore; I informed her at WGU each student is assigned a mentor who will assist her every step of the way. Also, there are mentors for each course and community chat sites to interact with other students. I also stated to her that improving our educational level would be the key to optimizing future career opportunities. She was under the impression that online degrees were not very popular. I will obtain information to show the contrary. In 2006-2007, the majority—66 percent—of accredited colleges offered online distance courses (Phillips, 2009). With that said, the next steps would be to research potential schools which she could evaluate. Accordingly having a family member that recently graduated from (WGU), I was able to obtain a direct viewpoint regarding expectations of WGU students and vice-versa. Research entailed information from several online colleges/universities. It was determined that WGU offered the most attractive benefits for her needs. I feel this program would be perfect for her. Rachel should enroll at WGU because the advantages as a student include online learning, accelerated courses, and low cost tuition.
