* Full bibliographic citation (2 pts)

* Introduction/topic (3 pts) – You must identify and introduce the journal that your article is a part of. If your source is a web article, and not a journal article, then introduce the website. You must also provide a title for each annotation. The title for each annotation must be the same.

* Summary/Research Methods (3 pts) – Summarize main ideas, tables, and charts (if there are any). Summarize research methods.

* Strengths/Limitations of text (2 pts)

* Conclusions of author (2 pts)

* Reliability of source (3 pts) – Research the authors of the source, and determine if they’re qualified.

* Reflection (5 pts) – Write about whether or not you think the source is relevant to your essay topic. Give specific reasons to support your answer. You should also write about whether or not you will use the source for your Academic Research Essay. Explain why or why not.

Monitoring the Future (MTF) is a project that began in 1975 to study changes in the beliefs, attitudes, and behavior of young Americans. The results of MTF studies are used by policymakers at every level of the US government, including the White House Strategy on Drug abuse. The study in this article surveyed three usage time periods: lifetime (at least once), past year, and past month. Included in the survey were 46,500 8th, 10th, and 12th graders from nearly 400 American secondary schools.
