Every organization that focuses on customers at the bottom of the pyramid will have to address the “last mile issue.” Nokero must overcome this challenge of reaching its potential 1.3 billion customers by finding unique solutions. One way would be to take advantage of existing retail channels in their targeted countries. They should locate township stores close to their customer’s residences that sell other household items. By doing this, Nokero will gain customers through existing stores and serve the people they wish to reach. Another option to reach those remote customers is to create hybrid partnerships with established organizations. An example would be nongovernmental organizations and micro finance institutions. These organizations have made it their end goal to help build nations and societies. As an example, the United Nations Development program has offices in over 170 countries and territories. They wish to eradicate poverty with the hopes of someday lessening the inequality gap and providing universal access to basic services. The United Nations has also developed the Action4Energy program that supports 100 developing countries specifically with energy-related projects to “light the world”. And finally, Nokero can help communities help themselves by empowering community members to become entrepreneurs. These individuals will sell the light bulbs to people in their villages for use – they will act as sales agents on behalf of the company.

7. A goal of many organizations whose target audience is amongst the poorest in the world is to make their product affordable. Nokero’s customers are spending, on average, $40 billion per year on lighting fuel for their kerosene lamps, which amounts to about 5% of their income.
