In the week three case study, I made an effort to perform a SWOT and Space matrix. The space matrix shows the financial position, stability position, and competitive position. The SWOT matrix shows the weaknesses, strengths, opportunities, and threats. The two matrixes will help draw conclusions about the long-term and short-term strategies for McDonalds. Long-term strategies are consistent and usually they take two to five years to complete. Short-term strategies are smaller goals that help an organization to move towards the long-term goals.

The SWOT matrix research reveals that McDonalds has much strength. One of their top strengths involves resistance to economic hardships. During economic hardships, the company shows a pattern of strong sales throughout the years, where other companies had trouble. One company that experienced economic hardships during the recession in 2009 was Starbucks (David, 2011). While McDonalds showed resistance to the recession, Starbucks was experiencing economic hardships, which resulted in many of their locations going out of business (David, 2011). One of the weaknesses that affect McDonalds on a regularly basis is their food offering (Brewer, 2012). Like most fast food chains, the burgers and fries contain a high level of grease, which is unhealthy. These foods have a negative effect on society because most people are becoming health consciousness (Brewer, 2012). Interestingly enough, this is an external threat that McDonalds faces because many restaurants are being pushed to provide healthier foods (Brewer, 2012). Healthier foods can help reduce obesity and other medical conditions in society. McDonalds faces many types of threats and one threat that the company faces is politic factors.
