Case Study: Hyperthermia

1. The definition of homeostasis is the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes. In hyperthermia’s case it is the condition of having a body temperature greatly above normal. Homeostasis and hyperthermia relate to one another by trying to maintain normal body temperature. The body functions in narrow range to create a dynamic equilibrium. As soon as it goes off your in a state of trouble. High end range is of 99 while a low range of 97.8- narrow limit. 99 range is a state of imbalance because you’ve broken through 98.6-97.8.

2. Elderly individuals with poor circulation have a greater risk of suffering from heat exhaustion or heatstroke because they are aging. Older people are at high rise because of changes in the skin due to aging, high blood pressure, lung and kidney diseases, and illnesses that cause general fever and weakness. As you age the narrow ranges reverse. Blood circulation is one of the primary ways through which the body regulates its temperature. To use as example, in cold conditions, blood is withdrawn from the hands, feet and legs.

3. Spraying water on the skin while sitting in front of a fan will lower your body temperature. Your body temperature will drop to conserve energy. This action of spraying water on your body while sitting in front of a fan will lower your body temperature because as water evaporates it uses the energy from your body in the form of heat to evaporate. As energy is constantly being taken from the body to evaporate each water molecule, the body temperature decreases.The fan is cooling you off by helping the water and possible sweat to evaporate.

4. While attempting to lower someones body temperature in response to hyperthermia, one should avoid treatments that induce shivering and or vasoconstriction. Shivering produces heat...
