People with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder sometimes outgrow the condition. But more often than not, the symptoms linger into adulthood. A 2006 study in Psychological medicine found that about 65% of patients retain at least partial symptoms of the conditions when they grow. But only about 10% of adults with ADHD are treated and diagnosed, says Russell A. Barkley, a clinical professor of psychiatry at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston (Mascarelli 2011).

Some people ignore the signs of ADHD and think maybe the child is to busy and just can't be still. Actually once a child enters school that's when the signs are revealed. Because it hinders the child's academic level, it's hard for them to stay focus and pay attention to the teacher. The child is unable to retain the information and get familiar with the material to meet the academic criteria. The teacher becomes concern and notifies the child parents so they can come up with some strategies to help get the child on track. Putting the child on medication is a way to help get the symptoms under control. This is one developmental stage in adolescence or young adulthood.

Another stage is obesity follows the young into adulthood. The results not only confers profound health risk for teens whose excess weight follows them and accelerates into adulthood, it also spells a looming public health disaster in a country where almost 1 in 5 adolescents is obese. By the time they reach their late 20's to early 30's people who were obese between 12 and 21 are more than seven times more likely than normal-weight or overweight peers to develop severe obesity defined as having a body mass index, or BMI of 40 or more (Healy 2010).
