“Real Discipline”By Ron Morrish | * ‘Real discipline’ is a straightforward discipline model that is sensible, easy to learn, and teachable to all students of all different ages. * Rules for behavior are established by the teacher and not by the students until they have established a level of maturity that allows for those types of decisions. * The strength of the “real discipline’ model is that the teacher is seen as an authority figure, setting goals, conveying those goals to the students, and then helping the students achieve those goals through carefully though-out procedures. | * The weakness in the model is its lack of flexibility that is needed in an inclusion classroom setting that may require a sincere look at cultural diversity within a classroom. | * The advantage of the model is that it is well structured being divided into four main components; 1) Teacher established rules of behavior, 2) compliance training, 3) re-do misbehaviors correctly, 4) later, make choices. * Students are encouraged to make good choices. | * The structure of this model may not be reflective of the home life of many students who are used to a less structured existence. * Implementation may be met with resistance. |
