In society today we use can access information easily from millions of databases around the globe. We have dubbed this revolution as the information age. The information age is unique and significantly different than previous eras. Information used to be controlled by the rich, influential, and powerful. Now it has become widespread and accessible through a few keystrokes on a computer.  “In this era of information and communication, more digitally enhanced communication devices like mobiles, Internet and satellites are paving way to expansion for the wider reach of communication technology (Chand).”

A core country and a big player in information production is the United States. Software, news, and communication in the recent years have severely increased in America. Nearly everyone has an electronic device or some means of communication. India, which is a semi-periphery nation, has also seen a rise in information. Call centers and Information technology has seen a recent rise the previous years because of outsourcing. Technology in India is on par with America, but not everyone has easy access. This is due to the poverty in some regions that cannot afford computers, cellphones, etc. Places like Kenya have almost no forms of communication, thus earning the label periphery nation. The people in these countries don’t have to focus on feeding and sheltering their families before they can worry about information. Non-profits provide children with laptops in their schools to enhance their learning. Many of the children go on to live the same lives that their parents live, because their basic needs take precedence over communication. Since Kenya has inflated currency so it has less buying power than that of a core or semi-periphery
