Trip to Spain (1882-1885)

Sojourn

Singapore

May 3, 1882 – Rizal departed on board the SS Salvadora bound for Singapore. With tears in his eyes and gloom in his heart, he gazed at the receding skyline of Manila.

May 9, 1882 – SS Salvadora docked at Singapore. Rizal landed, registered at Hotel de la Paz and spent 2 days on a site seeing soiree of the city.

May 11, 1882 – in Singapore, Rizal transferred to another ship Djemnah, a French steamer.

Colombo

May 18, 1882 – Rizal arrived at Colombo, the capital of Ceylon (Sri Lanka).

Aden

May 27, 1882 – Rizal landed at Aden.

Suez Canal

June 2, 1882 – Rizal arrived at the Suez Canal en route to Marseilles.

It was built by Ferdinand de Lesseps and was inaugurated on Nov 17, 1869.

Naples and Marseilles

June 11, 1882 – Rizal went around the City of Naples.

June 12, 1882 – The steamer docked at the French harbor of Marseilles.

June 15 1882 – he left Marseilles for Barcelona in an express train.

Barcelona

June 16, 1882 – Rizal finally arrived in Barcelona.

Rizal in Madrid

November 3, 1882 – Rizal enrolled in the Universidad Central de Madrid in two courses – Medicine and Philosophy of Letters.

June 15, 1883 – He left Madrid and went to Paris for short summer vacation.

June 17, 1884 – Rizal arrived at Paris.

August 20, 1883 – Rizal was back in Madrid to continue his studies.

October 1, 1885 – Rizal planned to leave Madrid.

Rizal in Germany (1885-1887)

Dresden

October 29, 1886 – (8:20am) Rizal arrived at Dresden

Leimeritz(Bohemia)

May 13, 1887 – Viola and Rizal finally reached the hometown of Ferdinand Blumentritt (spent 3 days).

Prague and Vienna

May 19, 1887 – They bade goodbye to Dr. Willkomm.

May 20, 1887 – The two arrived in Vienna.

Lintz-Rheinfall-Munich-Nuremberg-Ulm

May 26-30, 1887 – checked in Rhine hotel in Munich for 5 days.

Switzerland

June 3 , 1887 – the two drank beer in Baverieche, Bierhalle, Basel, Switzerland.

Italy

June 27, 1887 – Rizal arrived at Rome.
