Hep C Lab
1) Hepatitis C is much more aggressive then Hep A and Hep B since it is known to stay with the patient for very extended amounts of time and can cause more serious illiness such as liver failure or cancer.
2) Hypothesis: The recombinant- based assay for HCV will detect HCV antibodies in blood samples of people with hepatitis C or who are carriers of HCV, but not in non-HCV individuals.
3) Explain the experiment: Grow HCV gene and SOD’s in a lab and inject them into yeast genomes. Then after gene expression of SOD/HCV polypeptides (referred to as C100-3 at high levels) test with blood samples of infected individuals. Let grow and determine the number of antibodies that were created.
4) Data: Hepatitis Patients with
Chronic Hepatitis C tests approximately 28,000 cpm of HCV antibodies in C100-3.
Acute Hep. C tests approximately 1,000 cpm of HCV antibodies in C100-3.
Control (No Hep. C) approximately 1,000 cpm of HCV antibodies in C100-3.
Blood donors were:
Chronic Hep C. approximately 19,000 cpm of HCV antibodies in C100-3.
Acute Hep. C approximately 1,000 cpm of HCV antibodies in C100-3.
Control (No Hep C.) approximately 1,000 cpm of HCV antibodies in C100-3.
5) Analyze: Individuals in the group on acute Hep C would be considered to have negative assay results. Individuals known to have chronic Hep C tested positive with C100-3 assay.
6) Yes individuals known to have chronic Hep C tested into a high range of SOD/HCV polpoptides or C100-2 assay.
