Role and Functions of Law
In order to determine the functions or role of the law in society and business one must know the definition, Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary gives the following definition. Law is defined as “a binding custom or practices of a community: a rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognized as a binding or enforced by a controlling authority” (Merriam-Webster, Inc. (2009).The role and function of law are very important in building and maintaining both boundaries and structure for both socity and business. Each of our laws are there to set the guidelines for behavior and ethical principles that are standard for social conduct. This also goes for businesses for the absence of guidelines and standards will ultimately lead to the downfall of the business world. Without laws the society would be unable to function correctly and eventually they would terminate all forms of legal not only for society but also the termination of any structured business activity. This is why the role and functions of law are based on a purpose. The purposes of law begin when domination and power of higher authority had no consideration for the rights of individuals (Melvin).
The United States has created laws to help justice in society and in business from many angles. There are four sources that is there are four primary sources, of law that have federal and state levels. There are four primary sources of law they can either work alone or together. The first source of law is the Constitutional law which is the law of the land this is the foundation for all of the other laws in the United States.
