U.S annexes Hawaii:

At first missionaries and whalers were the only people that had settled in Hawaii. After they were settled they began to grow sugar to the states. After a while, Hawaii became a favored nation because it allowed them to import things without tariffs. 15 years later, in order to continue the deal of importing without tariffs, the U.S a naval base in Pearl Harbor. But another 4 years later the agreement ended, when a tariff was passed. In response to the people of Hawaii plotted to have the small island added as a territory of the U.S.

This is imperialism because it is showing the U.S taking advantage of things around them, in this case Hawaii. When Hawaii was allowing citizens of the U.S to have free imports the U.s decided they were going to come in and take over. They wanted complete control of everything that was going in and out of Hawaii. Along with this, Hawaii was a good place for the U.S to spy on Japan.

U.S proposes open door policy:

The open door policy stated that European nations and the United States could trade with China, showing intervention. It was recommended that they do it like this because it allowed multiple imperial powers access to China, without either of them being in complete control of it. Through the purchase of the Philippine islands, and when the place where European powers and Japan seemed imminent in China, the United States felt its commercial interests in china threatened the U.S
