Bass Fishing

Bass fishing is the activity of angling for the North America game fish. Modern bass fishing has become a multi-billion dollar industry because of rods, reels, lures, lines, and boats. Bass fishing was introduced to the U.S. around the 1900’s. In the U.S., the sport of bass fishing as greatly advanced by the stocked of largemouth and smallmouth bass outside their native ranges in the latter portion of the 19th century .The sport of bass fishing as changed dramatically since the beggings in the late 19th century. Became popular because bass fishing is the second most specifically sought after game fish in the United States.

Largemouth bass are native to North America. The largemouth bass is the state fish of Alabama, (official freshwater fish) Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida. Tennessee is the official state of bass. The dicribition of the largemouth bass is, it is an olive green fish, marked by a series of dark, sometimes black, blotchers forming a jagged horizontal stripe along each flank. The upper jaw of the largemouth bass extends beyond the rear margin of the mouth. Largemouth bass have been known to exist in many of the lower 48 states of the U.S. Although it is most popular in the southeastern states, many different varieties of the largemouth bass can be found in the north and western regions

Smallmouth bass and largemouth bass are not the same. Just like the largemouth bass, smallmouth bass are both freshwater fish and in the sunfish family. Smallmouth bass are native to upper and middle Mississippi River basin, the Saint Lawrence River, Great Lakes system and up into the Hudson Bay basin. Smallmouth bass are usually brown (seldom yellow) with red eyes. Rather than horizontal bands along the side smallmouth bass have vertical bands along the side.
