Comprehending the Movie “Gladiator”

The movie Gladiator is one of the great films in the year 2000. All the effort that went into making this movie came together to make a stunning ,part historical, reenactment of the director’s overviews of this story. The storytelling and good portrayals by the actors, in combination of the camera shots and lighting, creating the special effects, the brutality and realism of the action, and how the editing was used to explore and confront us with this time period., makes us believe and feel for the characters involved in this movie. Making this movie shows how all the experts involved, bought their skills into play to create a wonderful movie.

Making a great movie involves many aspects. The director envisions the movie and leads the rest of the moviemakers to develop his vision. The set designer makes the set believable. Cinematographer is in charge of camera shots and lighting. There are people in charge of hair and make-up, so we get a feel for the time frame. We cannot forget the actors with their performance and dialogue. Music helps to tie it all together. Finally, the editor cuts and splices the footage to make it flow naturally or into comprehensible segments.

This movie came out in 2000. The story is familiar, in that it centers on the struggle for power and the desire for revenge, by those who have been wronged by Roman rulers. The time frame is 180 AD. The storyline is about a general Maximus, who is portrayed by Russell Crowe, whom has been fighting for the Emperor for eight years. The Germania’s are the final tribe to be defeated, so Rome can now enjoy peace time.

Maximus is the protagonist, which will be the good guy or the hero. His villainous counterpart is the murderous, Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix.
