View of Piazza San Marco, Venice

This piece was made from oil and was made on canvas. The painting shows a bunch of people in a courtyard dressed in nice clothes walking around enjoying their day. It is supposed to be a realistic painting of how Venice’s principle square looked. The background has a setting of a clear beautiful blue sky with a few clouds in it. The buildings in the photo seem to be tan in color and have a beautiful design to them. The people in this photo seem to be wearing clean and colorful clothing which might have somebody to think that they are a bit wealthy. It does not seem like the clothes a poor person would wear back in those days. The first thing that catches my eye in this photo is the building in the background. On the top of the building it starts off with a visual of about five to six windows and as you keep looking down the building you will notice arches that go along the whole length of the building. Under those arches is where the people are walking in their brightly colored clothes. The first piece of clothing that catches my eye is the couple in the middle with the woman wearing a red piece of clothing and the man wearing a black piece of clothing and it looks to me like he is also wearing a black hat. To the right of that couple it seemed to me like there was a little tent in which they might be selling clothes in. Venice was a place where a lot of rich people liked to travel to back in the days. There were no postcards or any type of camera that could capture a picture of something like this back in those days so artists were forced to go off of memory and recognition. Paintings like this one were often sold as souvenirs and this one is what looks to be a typical day in Venice, Italy. It is a realistic approach to what the principal square looked like in Venice.
