Do you agree or disagree with following statement: The government should spend money on the construction of new buildings rather than on the preservation of old buildings.

From our normal point of view, the government should take enough responsibility to use the taxpayer’s money in order to enhance the quality of our citizen’s life. Within this background, some experts point out that the government should put money on the new buildings instead of the refreshing of the old ones, from my point of view, I definitely disagree with this statement.

First and foremost, we should respect that every building has its own unique service life, which mostly depends on the different materials using, various designing and other climate conditions. In this case, we cannot declare the end of an old building so easily that may cause a huge waste of materials, labor force and other costs. For the area where the earthquake happens occasionally, the government should put more attention on the so-called old buildings. If necessary, even though these buildings just have served few years, because of the potential destroyed consequence, they should be replaced by the new one immediately. But for other parts of the country, the situation may be very different.

Second, some old buildings have valuable and irreversible culture values that need protection from our government. If the government always tries to replace the old buildings with the new one, how can we see the Great Wall in China, the pyramids in Egypt, Pantheon in Rome and other magnificent structures, how can we study the techniques using in the old times, the thoughts given by our ancestors and the greatness of civilization, and how can we to understand the history, the world around us and even the human ourselves. There is no doubt that, we should treasure these historical old buildings rather than tearing them down so easily without concerning other significant patterns.
