Week 1: Petries' Electronics Cases Ch 2

1. Look over the scope statement (PE Figure 4-1). If you were an employee at Petrie’s Electronics, would you want to work on this project? Why or why not?

After reading the project overview, I wouldn’t mind working on the project. I believe building a relationship with a customer is needed to provide strong customer service. Creating a reward point system would also be a great way to create long term customers. The goal of the system is to “provide an incentive to customers to choose Petrie’s Electronics as their first and only choice for making electronic purchases.” By tracking customers’ purchases, creating a point system for cumulative purchase, and allowing points to be redeemed for rewards, I believe this will help Petrie’s Electronic reach their goal. This will attract customers to making their electronic purchases with Petrie’s.

2. If you were part of the management team at Petrie’s Electronics, would you approve the project outlined in the scope statement in PE Figure 4-1? What changes, if any, need to be made to the document?

I believe the scope statement in incomplete. I believe the management portion of the statement is lacking information. The management plan should consist of: the organizational structure for the project team, policies and procedures under which team members will be expected to operate, job descriptions, and reporting structure for each team member. The point of the management portion of the scope statement is to ensure that all team members know their roles and their responsibilities. Figure 4-1 should be more specific when listing each members role. It should also include a reporting structure for each team member.

4. What do you consider to be the risks of the project as you currently understand it? Is this a low-, medium-, or high-risk project? Justify your answer. Assuming you were part of Jim’s team, would you have any particular risks?
