Verizon Wireless is a for-profit company that has been known as one of the top leading telecommunication businesses in the world. That recognition has not come easy by no means. Verizon Wireless is dedicated to making sure a focus on culture through shareholder value is a top priority in helping to reach its accomplishments and success. Some of the actions taken by the communications mogul includes but is not limited to ongoing training throughout the company, focus on creativity, and testing/pilot programs for technology effectiveness. Verizon has without a doubt found a process that works, and will continue to implement more of that same strategy to grow even more.

The case study shows how Verizon went from appearing on the top ten list five times from 2007 to 2012 and hit the number one spot in 2012. The company had some obstacles in the way upfront such as expired union agreements and a set training budget. Where other companies may have had a hard time maneuvering around these issues, Verizon managed to create training programs geared towards the company strategic goals.

SMEs, which are subject matter experts, were placed throughout the organization to help create the atmosphere for success in the different business units. Allowing each business unit to focus on its own functional- specific initiatives. The company had a total of three main goals that were in sight for 2011 and they included being in the lead for creating more value in shareholders, being recognized as a top technology company icon, and develop a business with employees strong enough to stand behind the strength of the network itself.

After Verizon implemented its various training programs and ideas from the executive level it began to branch off into each business unit giving it the momentum needed to land the number one spot.
