Payroll Accounting involves providing information to the Finance Department which includes taxes, health insurance premiums, and retirements. Other duties may include entering information such as time-worked data, pay rate-changes, and new employee information into the payroll system. In order to keep up with changes Payroll professional must remain proficient in their field. This need is met by the (APA) American Payroll Association along with training seminars, webinars, and so much more.

Accountants that pass the exam are awarded with a certificate which gives them recognition. Like any other department they are rules and regulations that must be followed.

Key concepts that made me a stronger candidate to enter the business world are learning about futa, suta, assets, and liabilities. Did you know employers that are excluded under federal law are also excluded under state laws? However not all employers are covered by the unemployment compensation laws of one or more states covered by FUTA. Homeworkers whether full time or part-time are exempt under FUTA.

This course has changed my life professionally in so many ways I never knew was possible. I enjoyed using Excel to perform functions on a daily basis and learning new things. No matter where life takes me in the next 2-3 years I will always have my certification, experience, and reputation to guide me. Some might say those are big shoes to fill, but there is no doubt in my mind. As I continue my education and move into the next semester Payroll Accounting was an experience of a lifetime. In the near future customers can walk into my office and feel confident they are getting the best results. I will also make a name for myself while at the same time building on experience one step at a time. With that being said it was a great semester!
