In this paper, the definitions of creativity, design, and innovation in business will be shown, the description of the importance of these terms in ensuring organizational objectives are met will also be shown.

Creativity, Design, and Innovation

Von Stamm gives the definition of creativity as “an act of coming up with an idea, is an inherently individual act – it is the development of an idea and the implementation where needed” (Von Stamm, 2008). According to the Business Dictionary online, the definition of creativity is “mental characteristics that allow a person to think outside of the box, which results in innovation or different approaches to a particular task” (2014).

Von Stamm gives the definition of design as “the conscious decision-making process by which information, as an idea, is transformed into an outcome, be it tangible or intangible” (Von Stamm, 2008). Business Dictionary describes design as the “realization of a concept or idea into a configuration, drawing, model, mold, pattern, plan, or specification and which helps achieve the item’s designated objective(s)” (Business Dictionary, 2014).

Innovation is described through the Business Dictionary as “the process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates value or for which customers will pay” (Business Dictionary, 2014). The terms of creativity, design, and innovation is described in various ways by a group or an individual that happens to be defining the terms.

Meeting Organizational Objectives

In an organization, the most important role is to maintain and achieve longevity as well a a competitive edge. In order to do these things an organization will need to incorporate creativity, design, and innovation.
