“The Road Not Taken" and "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”

The poems “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost both depict the contemplating of the choices you have in life. The former is about the formative years and life experiences, the concluding is about the senior years in life, or more likely, an old soul that has been ran down by life. The speaker in both of the poems is in a precarious spot where he needs to make a decision between two courses in life. In “The Road Not taken” the speaker decides the irregular approach in making a logical choice, as a result showing his individually and trying mentality however in “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” the speaker tries to live life without any grieve and exertion but at the conclusion, he has to abide by social obligation, this reflects his duty to society.

In “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, he needs to make a choice in his life as well. His choices are between separation and social duty. By the third stanza the speaker struggles with the choice he made, he ponders if he ought to leave or remain in the woods. He does consider going back but, he also looks at how wonderful the “wind” is and its ability to whoosh away his misfortunes and concerns. When all is said and done, he realizes that “dark and deep” wood and “frozen lake”, this symbolizes death, this is not direction he is willing to move that. The speaker has promises that he needs to keep. He does in fact bond his life and consequently he decides to travel on.

In “The Road Not Taken”, the speaker has a huge choice in his life that needs to be made. This poem speaks about an individual who comes to a parting in the road and he has to select which path to walk down. This road is a representation of the choices made in our lives.
