Global Warming: Cause and Mitigation2

Compare and contrast natural versus anthropogenic climate changes. Include specific examples of each.

A comparison of observations with simulations of a couple ocean atmosphere general circulation model shows that both natural and anthropogenic factors have contributed significantly to temperature changes. The model successfully simulations global mean and large scale land temperature variations, indicating that the climate response on these scales is strongly influenced by external factors. Anthropogenic global warming under a standard emissions is predicted to continue at a rate similar to that observed in recent years.

Take a position as to whether or not global warming is taking place. Provide three (3) lines of evidence to support your position.

The heat trapping nature of carbon dioxide and other gases was demonstrated. Their ability to affect the transfer of influenced energy through the atmosphere is the scientific basis of many instruments. Increased levels of greenhouse gases must cause the earth to warm in response.

Ice cores drawn from Greenland, Antarctica, and tropical mountain glaciers show that the earth's climate responds to changes in solar output, in the earth's orbit, and in greenhouse gas levels. They also show that in the past, large changes in climate have happened very quickly.

Assess two (2) current mitigation strategies for global warming, such as carbon sequestration, carbon taxing, clean coal technology, higher fuel efficiency standards, and so on. Include discussion on the effectiveness of this mitigation strategy, as well as its potential costs and policy implication.
