“Learning your first job” showed me different styles and techniques of learning. This summary proves the difference between freshmen and upper classmen and how they perform in and outside of the classroom. Also this passage explains the views of time management between beginning students and upper classmen. In many ways this passage explains the expectations of professors opposed to high school teachers. This passage applies to me in several ways as a learner such as how I study, the way I take notes, and how I prepare for an exam.

There are different techniques between taking notes in high school and college. In high school a teacher will project notes on the Promethean board and tell you to copy the notes. High school teachers also believe in handing out already written notes while college professors believe in lectures and the student taking notes based on what notes they think they will need to study. I do agree that copying notes from a board and hearing the teacher talk can be quite difficult; it is hard for a student to focus on two different activities at once. Most students concentrate more on writing what’s on the board then comprehending what the teacher is saying. In the passage the author implies that college professors do not like to give out hand written notes because of the fear that students might daydream, doze off, or not come to class. I disagree because that is something I would not do. Just because a teacher gives you notes does not mean it covers all the content on the test.

I do believe that studying is very important when it comes to making it through college. For freshmen students the purpose of studying is just to pass the test. As for professors the purpose is for their students to remember the course content. But I don’t agree with studying something that is not going to be on the test.
