Project Charter

Project Title: “NEW” Automated Assembly Line

Project Manager Assigned: Senior Management, will be responsible for overseeing the project and delegating various task.

Background: The Company wants to create a new automated assembly line in order to stay competitive with the Chinese imports.

Project Scope and Limitations: The purpose is to make a new assembly line and reduce the work force by either transferring employees to another location on by having a layoff. This project will not have more than 10 employees to manage the operation and negotiations will not be made as this plan is already in motion.

Goal: To build a new automated assembly line for widgets in an existing plant in the shortest amount of time possible.

Assumptions or constraints: Need permits for construction, need certified and licensed workers, need HR to either reassign or reduce force, training, compliance, pre-testing, marketing, translation in additional languages, setup and installation

Deliverables: Having a plant within the United States.

Due Dates: Shortest amount of time which is 1 month from today.

Financing: The cost is $10 million and this project is not to exceed this amount unless cleared by the Board of Directors.

Business Case: Having an automatic production line would restore the competitiveness of the company and turn growing losses around into profits.

Product Description: High priority due to the high manpower requirement, cannot compete against low-cost Chinese imports.
