Delivering Business Value with IT at Hefty Hardware

Major Issue:

* The IT department doesn’t know anything about business operations and their company’s business value. The only thing IT people are doing is technology and infrastructure. They don’t have the sense to know more about business and values.

* The executive department and IT department cannot work collaboratively at all levels. The executive department comes up with the idea that using the Japanese technology to spread Hefty’s business onto the mobile phone which can lead to a big opportunity. However, IT department cannot make the project works because there are some technique issues on the system, and it’s hard to adapt to the mobile phones. The executive department and IT department has different opinion towards the project, and they are not happy with each other. IT department plays the major role in Hefty’s business. The executive department cannot achieve their goal without the help and understanding from the IT department. If they cannot work collaboratively, then it will not lead to the profit for Hefty Hardware.

* When Glen sent out the invitation to the IT department, they are likely not to send the top colleague to the store. They believe that they have something more important to do, and there is some high priority projects need to be done in the next few weeks.

Recommendations:

* Hefty Hardware needs to strengthening competence in the IT department. The most important thing is to develop the business idea and knowledge in all IT staff. On the other hand, makes business also aware of the IT problems. This can lead to the understanding between Business and IT department. The IT decisions needs to include the business value as a component, and make sure the IT makes the effective execution to the company.
