WOMEN IN THE MEDIA

With her first album called The Fame, it seems Lady Gaga knew what was in store for her since she first titled the record. Now, having a second album titled The Fame Monster, she has become the modern-world Madonna, though it seems people have forgotten who Madonna is, no matter how closely Gaga copies her style. As Madonna in her heyday, there will always be scantily clad women doing dance moves that appear to be humanly impossible. The masses look to these women, and sadly enough, put them on a pedestal and judge themselves in comparison. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) cannot be expected to take away their First Amendment rights; it is about young people understanding self-respect, having class, and listening to talented musicians.

It is bad enough that half of the people worshipping said women are young girls whose minds, bodies, and self-images are still in development, making these girls very impressionable. It is even worse when those same young girls become one of them—i.e. Miley Cyrus. Cyrus became a Disney star at the age of thirteen. Now that she is seventeen, she had decided to do whatever it takes to break away from Disney as far and fast as she could, hence the video for her new song, “Can’t Be Tamed.” It includes a half-naked, underage Cyrus surrounded by half-naked, full-grown men and women. Not only is her Disney past always going to follow her, but her crowd of pre-teen fans is going to listen and watch her no matter what she is up to after Hannah Montana fades. While it is understandable that Cyrus does not want to be a household Disney name her entire life, she must understand that her fan base is not as grown-up as she. Miley Cyrus may be getting older, but Hannah Montana, like her following, shall forever be thirteen.
