There are a number of graphic presentation forms. Which would you recommend to show each of the following? Why? In looking to present information in a graphic presentation many graphic forms should be considered in order to display the information clearly. The textbook lists and describes the many graphic forms, which include, “line graphs, area charts, pie charts, bar charts, pictographs, and 3-D graphics”(Cooper & Schindler, 2014, p.531). Each graphic form can serve to present information in a clear, concise fashion, which will be looked at more frequently and remembered more easily than tabular presentations (Cooper & Schindler, 2014, p.531). A knowledge of the many different graphic forms and their specific uses is vital to their effectiveness as part of a research report. Richard Langendorf wrote, “The intelligent use of these tools can reduce the time needed to organize and prepare a presentation and can increase its effectiveness” (p.357).

A comparison of changes in average annual per capita income from the United States and Japan from 1995 to 2010. Multiple types of graphic forms could present the information; however a multi variable bar chart would be most appropriate. The bar charts are useful in “comparing different entities on the same variable or component of the variable” (Cooper & Schindler, 2014, p. 532). Both the countries would be listed above the years 1995 to 2010. The average annual per capita income for each country is shown on the same chart.

The percentage composition of average family expenditure patterns, by the major types of expenditures, for families whose heads are under age 35 compared with families whose heads are 55 or older. If only the percentages of income spent are being compared then a horizontal bar chart would be an appropriate graphic form. Additionally, pie charts using the percentages could be used.
