WAYNE MCDILL’S BOOK “THE MOMENT OF TRUTH”

Introduction

The content of this book proved itself to be very informative and detailed. Personally, this is a book that I would use as a reference book rather than a book I would choose to read from cover to cover. It provides so much information to apply that I will not remember everything if I read it all at once. Nor does it flow like a book that builds from chapter to chapter. Therefore, I would use it more often by searching the chapter titles if I needed specific information for a sermon. From the standpoint of a preacher, a good scripture verse that I would use to apply to my review of this book is found in 2 Timothy 2:15. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” What does a preacher need to do to assure he is doing his best as he is handling the word of truth? The moment of Truth by Wayne V. McDill helps dissect every detailed aspect of a sermon. I believe this next quote from the introduction is given as a great preface to the message of this book:

“The moment of truth is that occasion when the sermon lives. It comes forth from the mouth of the preacher and takes shape in the mind of the preacher-his tone of voice, his facial expressions, his movements, his energy and animation- and every signal blends with his words to create a message”.

Like the last book review, this book provides too much information to give a thorough review in just 4-5 pages. Therefore, my intention is to give three points. The three points will describe the three subject areas of the book that most caught my...
