Abstract

The number of people diagnosed with lung cancer annually in the United States has continually grown in recent years. Despite the warnings of the effects of cigarette smoke, convincing users to quit is a difficult task. A better approach may be to inform smokers of the three main treatment options and what each entails. Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation are all ideal options. People will learn which course of action is best for them after being diagnosed and made aware of the stage of their disease. Early stages are ideal for surgery and have a better remission outcome, with pre-op or post-op treatment. Lung cancer is a disease, mainly brought upon by thinking it will never happen. The statistics are prevalent and clearly show that lung cancer deaths exceed the combination of breast, prostate, and colon combined. With the information provided here, as well as more detailed information from many books, pamphlets, and websites, hopefully it will make a smoker look further into the disease and life expectancy and decide to quit.
