Project Description

* Currently there are twenty (20) Emergency 911 dispatch operators that handle emergency calls from a centralized location. Each operator stationed at a fixed position with two monitors to process, record, and transfer emergency calls.

* The purpose of this project is to provide a virtualized software solution for the 911 dispatch operators to process emergency calls from any location using a secure wireless connection. By creating a virtualized solution the Emergency 911 center will be able to provide redundancy in the event of a natural disaster, such as a hurricane or tornado destroys the current facility. Another opportunity is to allow management to monitor all operator activities actively from any location by launching and logging into the virtualized software program.

* The desired impact will be each operator can now use an updated laptop with the virtualized software loaded on it to process, record, and forward emergency calls as needed from any location that has a secure wireless connection.

Measurable Organization Value (MOV)

* The primary measure of value for this project will be to provide Mecklenburg County, NC dispatch operators with a virtualized software application to allow redundancy for processing, recording, and forwarding emergency calls. This solution will allow dispatch operators to launch the application from any location using a secure wireless connection in the event of limited access to the current facility as a result of a natural disaster.
