Introduction
* Who is Emile Durkheim?
French Sociologist, 1858-1917
Major contributor to modern Sociology and the Functional perspective of Sociology.
Some of his published works included, On the Division of Social Labour, The Rules of Sociological Method, and Suicide among others.
* What is Solidarity?
Definition of solidarity.
Definition of Mechanical solidarity.
Definition of Organic solidarity.
The societies in which these perspectives were found.

Therefor in this essay there would be the explanation of the difference between mechanical and organic solidarity.

What is mechanical solidarity?
One in which the individual is directly linked to society though collective beliefs and ideas.
What society is it found in?
Simple societies in which a strong homogeneity of personalities exist in the society.
An example of a society in which the mechanical solidarity perspective could be applied.

What is organic solidarity?
A perspective in which the individual is linked to society because he is dependent on other people in the same society
What society is it found in?
A society where individuals ARE unique from one another. People become specialized in one particular area, and are linked to other people and consequently the society through dependency
An example of a society in which the organic solidarity perspective could be applied. Modern industrialised Britain.
