Tanglewood Case 1

1. Acquire or Develop Talent

a. If the company is going to use an internal hiring strategy than developing talent is their best option. Developing talent allows for employee promotion and advancement, which is what Tanglewood’s upper managers are looking for. The company wants their employees to be self-sufficient and think like managers.

b. The company could also acquire new talent to adhere to their mission statement on the terms of always keeping performance and customer service on the forefront. For this to happen, the company may have to acquire the talent because the company many not be able to develop the types of people to deal with customer service.

2. Hire Yourself or Outsource

c. I believe that Tanglewood should hire themselves since they know what types of employees they are looking for that would be right for the job. Tanglewood allows each department manager to formulate their own methods for running their department. The department mangers would know what types of people they need to help run their department so allowing them to do their hiring would be beneficial.

3. External or Internal Hiring

d. If Tanglewood wants to create a strong company culture, they need to use an internal hiring strategy. I believe that if the company were to use an external hiring strategy it would affect how the employees carry out Tanglewood’s philosophy. Internal hiring will carry on the philosophy and cultivate the stable committed workforce and team atmosphere.

4. Core or Flexible Workforce

e. Tanglewood views theirs employees as being full or part time allowing for a core workforce, which is what I believe that Tanglewood needs to stick with to achieve the culture they desire. Tanglewood views their employees as being a ‘team’ and the only way to enforce the team aspect is to use a core workforce because this would not work with temporary employees as required in a flexible workforce....
