Technology Ethics in the Classroom
The use of technology in the classroom is leaving no room for teachers or students to ignore. With the use of this new technology all students can and will learn to become productive citizens. Because of the fact that almost no classroom is without computers or other technology it is essential that teachers and parents monitor what students are doing on the computers and how they are utilizing their time hopefully for the most part we would hope that they are following the rules. Computers are a great investment and can be a very educational tool when used properly. As a teacher when starting a new school year and knowing what can happen on the internet.
The first thing I would do is send home a user agreement that the parents and the students should read and agree upon before a student can be allowed to utilize the computer. In this day and age one would think that everyone owns a computer but really in reality that is not the case for some they have to use the public library or maybe even a friend. I feel that since I will be the teacher I will after a returned sign agreement explain to the students what is expected of them when using a school computer. What is acceptable and what is not. As a teacher it could be very helpful to give a test on Internet Use. Knowing that the internet supplies an endless world of learning and discovery for all students and again it can also be harmful. By surfing the web a student can improve their reading and research skills. Still student need to be aware of not coping someone else’s without properly citing it. Also there are cyber bulling and computers hackers waiting to get information from people who feel that everyone online is safe. Ethical use of technology is or should also be part of a lesson plan when a student do something hands on most of the time it sticks with them not all students but there are some.
