CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

The contributions provided by computers in advancement and growth of society are enormous. Plotnik (1996) states that the role of technology in the delivery of instruction at universities has been truly explosive.

The marriage of technology and higher education is set, as Parrot(1995) has emphasized, and it appears to enjoy some longevity. Parrot has forecasted that there would be more students who would gain instructions over a far greater range of technologies than ever previously imagined..

At Fellowship Baptist College, the school administration is cognizant of the importance of computerization of testings, procedures, and processes. It can be gleaned through the enhancement of staff, teachers, and students’ performances that computers are indeed highly valuable, especially to FBC that unceasingly endeavors to improve all factors deemed contributory to the development and advancement of the institution.

It is observed however that the school still utilizes the traditional buzzer in the announcement of the start and the end of a class period. During several instances, the sound of the buzzer was delayed thereby hampering the otherwise smooth flow of class scheduling.

The researchers therefore deem it appropriate to undertake a study that can ensure an unhampered class scheduling. Thus, the researchers endeavor to conduct a study on automated school bell.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to develop an automated school bell at the college department of Fellowship Baptist College and to determine its acceptability and benefits according to the college faculty and the fourth year students.

            Specifically, this research seeks to answer the following questions:

1.     What is the extent of acceptability of an Automated School Bell according to the college faculty members?

2.     What is the extent of benefits of an Automated School Bell as perceived by college faculty...
