This paper will analyze Drew and Smith (1998) study of the logistics management of the British Airways firm, including the nature and the techniques of BA's strategic logistics planning, which include the appraising of the factors and processes involved in the organization's logistics systems planning and systems.

As the benefits of an enterprise logistics are widely promoted with true core competence, the process of strategically positioning the firm for market success, includes a source of competitive advantage. So the new approaches to logistics management could be regarded to a steady and flexible foundation and core basis. In the case of British Airlines, its logistics nature and techniques include the influence of ownership that comprises capability, which eventually led the company to be making radical changes in their strategies, organizations, with operations and logistics. In addition, the privatization, in other words a change from public to private ownership, had stimulated BA to propose a three-circle framework that benefited the simplicity and elegance, which was also found extremely useful as a gadget for the stimulation of the issues that were related to the renovations. The three-circled framework includes: the bench making of the process of researching from the other firms that work on different logistics basis, also used in setting new directions and strategic plans; the second is the action from learning and developing programs that contribute to greater capabilities and will; the third, includes the development of organizational climate that tolerates failures related with greater learning and experimentation.
