Migration to Cloud Computing: Value Addition for a Bank

Abstract

A shift from utility computing to cloud computing in any organization means that the users who has been previously using Microsoft office applications for completing daily tasks now can do the same work using Google document apps. For the banking industry in Pakistan this would mean that a user who could only access the work station through the access control management systems can now work from anywhere regardless of his geographical location. From the point of view of cost benefit analysis when the accessibility of medium enhances, the performance bar rises and cost figure decreases for the firm. The concept of cloud computing is helpful in terms of cost time and efficiency, but future cost should also be considered. At the same time it is important to mitigate and manage risk to avoid brand damage and data losses particularly in financial institution. For UBL, being a financial institution it is most important to mitigate risk while transferring data to cloud.
