Asian Americans are the fastest growing minority group and the majority of growth is from Asian immigrants. Asian Americans are more likely to enter the fields that yield higher income but they are paid less than Whites. Asian Americans also pursue schooling more than any other groups including whites. They believe a 4 year degree will get them higher paying jobs and their culture upbringing places strong emphasis on education as well. This is because they know they will face discrimination and are optimistic that a higher education will help overcome this factor.

The following are income facts with some college for each group. Asian Americans reported $27,340 compared with Whites’ $32,318, Hispanics’ $27,757 and African Americans $27, 626. Advanced degrees income comparison: Asian American $72,852 compared with Whites’ $74,122, Hispanics’ $67,679, and African Americans $59,944.

Michael Woo ran for mayor of Los Angeles in 1993. His opponent ran a smear campaign with a stereotype message that Asian Americans are perpetual foreigners. Sad to say Woo lost. American Asians are also stereotyped as apathetic but have given more to politics than any other group except Jewish Americans.

In 2009, Judy Chu became the first Chinese American woman elected to congress. The Chinese Americans made an attempt to gain ground in congress in the late 90’s but was used as cash cows by the DNC because of the millions they donated. After that, they started a coalition between Chinese Americans and native-born Asian Americans. Since then they are making inroads in the political arena.
