By a show of hands how many of you are interested in sports? That’s good. Now for those of you not interested I like you to do something for me. During this speech I would like you to think as a or a future parent, seeing your child being exploited in the manner in which these young athletes are.

Many collegic sports are sanctioned and governed by the NCAA. For the purposes of this speech I will references examples from college football; however, will speak about a growing concern affecting all collegic sports sponsored by the NCAA. Texas A&M football team generated $119,702,222 in total revenue in 2011 (USA Today, 2013) This came in the form branding, media rights to broadcast, donations including students, alumni’s, and businesses. I think many of you would agree that is a lot of money. Recently, a quarterback from Texas A&M named Johnny Manziel, also known as Johnny Football, winner of the Heisman Trophy when he was just a freshman, and perhaps the most polarizing character in NCAA and professional sports, was in the news recently after being investigated for giving his autograph in exchange for money. His own signature! Think about that. You have all signed forms to go to school here. Imagine if you could make 20 dollars from your signature and then you are told by some Anoka Ramsey governing body that you cannot sell your signature to put food on your plate? Why is it such a concern for a football team that generated 119 million dollars last year care about a player giving their own signature for a couple bucks?

In this presentation will address the NCAA lock on collegiate athletes, the NCAA personal making money off of unpaid labor, and brighter future if colleges paid NCAA athletes.
