Columbia University and Durham University state their technique generates human hair growth. They were able to grow hair on a patch of human tissue grafted on mice. How does it work? Well they would take hair cells from a patients and grow them in a lab and then transplant cells back into the patients scalp. It would take fewer hair cells than the current method to relocate hair follicles from one part of the head to another. The study showed that five of the seven mice grew hair. As well as when DNA of the new hair was tested it was a perfect match to the patients. If this goes to clinical trials it not only could help men with baldness but women as well. It will be awhile though before any human studies will be done according to Professor Jahoda “We need to establish the origins of the critical intrinsic properties of the newly induced hairs, such as their hair cycle kinetics, color, angle, positioning, and texture. We also need to establish the role of the host epidermal cells that the dermal papilla cells interact with, to make the new structures."

Also in 2011 The University of California stumbled across a possible cure for baldness by studying mice that had lost their hair due to stress hormone corticotopin releasing factor. So they injected the mice with a compound the blocked the corticotopin releasing factor. After five days the mice had a full thick body of hair. It also restored pigment as well so that could even solve the graying issue. That is no guarantee it will work in humans studies in the past have shown while things work in animals many are a bust for humans. Clinical trials will be a very long way off for this. Another treatment in this same article is Latisse. It was originally created for glaucoma it was found to go hair in people that used it. So it was released for growth in eyelashes. Although there have been studies done where it worked for hair on the scalp in all cases they would have to go through additional...
