Joseph Bojarski POLS 5065 HW assignment 1

1. A) We will most likely see the Hawthrone effect arise if we were to do a study on how teenage boys and girls to interact at a dance party. If you were to have the teens go to a dance party that had no adult chaperone you would most likely observer the teens doing what they really want and having freedom of no fear. Now if you were to observe the same teens with adult chaperones that the teens know, you would most likely observe the teens acting more the way teens assume the adults would want them to behave. So the adult chaperones would cause the subjects to act in a different why than natural observation causing the Hawthrone effect to arise.

B) The Hawthrone effect is a systematic measurement error because systematic measurement error refers to factors that produce consistently inaccurate measures of a concept. And in the Hawthorne effect we assume a change in subjects response to be different when they are being observed, so this is a consist effect of the observation and not just a random on that happens once in a while.

So if someone that is less egalitarian might agree with this question saying that they should have the freedom to higher who they want and what they want to do. Also the more egalitarian people would agree to this question, so that would make this question useless as you couldn’t measure if the person was more or less egalitarian from the question.

C) Replacement of question C “ We should be more accepting of individual’s beliefs even if they are very different from our own beliefs.”
