NASCAR Should Be Considered a Sport, PERIOD!

Abstract

On the first Sunday of February, NASCAR begins its nine-month season at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Florida and concludes at Homestead International Speedway in Miami Florida. In this particular paper, it is written and expressed, the importance on NASCAR being considered a sport. With this, on the ‘pro’ side of the argument, activists argue that NASCAR should be considered a sport because each driver is competing throughout the season and have to maintain a certain amount of preparation and fitness to be successful each week. On the other hand, the people who argue against NASCAR being classified as a sport argue mostly on the physical aspect than the mental aspect. In many cases they are indeed true. NASCAR is mostly skill-dominated and the car is only used to be a tool to the driver’s success. Whichever the case may be, it really is determined on the individual who believes whether or not NASCAR should be considered a sport? Should it or shouldn’t it and why?

In a typical NASCAR season, racecar drivers from many different motorsport companies, all compete to qualify to be considered to race in the championship round. The season is long and can be very unpredictable from beginning to end, but the excitement level for each race held, is thrilling. And in addition to its excitement, the NASCAR atmosphere attracts a fan base from passionate car enthusiasts to individuals who want to experience fast racecars. Just like anything in life, there is always a downside to every positive, and for NASCAR’s sake, it too appeals a fan base that will argue that it is not to be considered a sport.
