“ Tanti At De Oval” By Paul Keens-Douglas

When I first listened to the story , my thoughts were carried away with the Caribbean culture which were displayed especially by Tanti Merle. The story was about the writers’ relative, Tanti Merle, who accompanies him to an important cricket match at the Queens Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, between the Combined Island and Trinidad. Tanti Merle is a 65 year old woman from St. Vincent and appears to be an elderly to the writer. Since it is her first visit to the oval, she prepares her basket of food to carry with her and is also behind time while the writer is not very delighted to carry her along with him. After reaching the oval, the writer is ashamed of Tanti Merle since she is loud, bold and not afraid to voice her opinion. He is also ashamed because other people as well as his friends thinks Tanti Merle is his wife.
