Pope John Paul II, Prominent Leader

Pope John Paul II is renowned as one of the most influential Catholic leaders of the twentieth century. Karol Józef Wojtyla , his birth name was ordained in 1946 and ten years later rose through the church hierarchy as a bishop, then in Krakow as the cardinal, and ultimately in 1978, as the first non-Italian pope for over 400 years, John Paul II, serving until his death in 2005 (John Paul II, Biography.com).

He is charm along with his communication skills to influence and bring about political change resulting in the end of communism in his native Poland. His leadership skills gained the Catholic Church's successful relations with Judaism, Islam, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Anglican Communion (Pope John Paul the most revered human on Earth).

As a leader, he traveled the world visiting 129 Countries advocating for non- violence and for human rights. He focused on going to places where there was dictators in power and to their captivated large mass of people; he would encouraged their desire for human rights, a dignity which every person should have. John Paul understood that every gathering was a chance to renew commitment and to create solidarity in the populace.

Later in life as he aged he was struck with Parkinson, weak, and frail, he persevered and made it out to the people to hear his teachings. Pope John Paul II would say, “There is a common faith that we have, it can transform our lives, it can make us authentic liberated people from within, that's the meaning of this Christian faith” (Bill Blakemore, 1999).

Authentic transformational leaders put their character strengths into action with their display of ethical and developed behavior aimed at shaping the character of their followers (Sosik, Zhu, & Blair, 2011).
