My name is Hati Williams and I am an African American who was migrated in the Domestic Slave Trade in the year 1800. I was born in the United States to William and Martha Williams in 1787. I lived in Virginia until the tender age of 13, at which time I was sold and transported to South Carolina to work on a cotton plantation. The trip from Virginia to South Carolina was extremely long and physically difficult. We walked chained in a coffle formation consisting of approximately 30 girls close to my age. There was rope tied around my neck like a halter that was about the size of a bed cord. The journey was terrible. We walked hundreds of miles and it took over six to reach our destination. We occasionally got to sleep in tents on the journey, but the majority of the time we slept on the ground with no blankets or shelter regardless of the weather conditions.
