I. John Adams

A. John Adams agreed to defend the British soldiers in a court case.

B. He took part in preparing the Declaration of Independence.

C. John Adams wanted to stand by what was fair, even in times when fairness would disagree with his personal beliefs.

II. John Adams began his career as a successful lawyer, after graduating from Harvard University.

D. John Adams chose to defend the British Captain and his 6 soldiers who were accused of murder.

i. He put his family and himself at risk for his choice.

ii. He was able to get the Captain and all but two soldiers acquitted.

E. John Adams was one of the men Congress asked to prepare the Declaration of Independence.

iii. On July 4, the Declaration of Independence is approved by all 13 states.
