Past, Present, and Future

The University of Phoenix offers degrees in Human Services. These degrees are geared toward the working adult in today’s society. Working as an assistant in a FMD Unit (Functional Mental Disabilities) and part-time service provider for Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center seemed to spark a light toward what my hearts passions was and that was working with children. The university offered programs that would help me in the present day work and future employment opportunities. In this paper I will discuss and evaluate my personal growth and professional growth during my studies at University of Phoenix.

Past

For me it is amazing to look back at the past four years and even begin to explain what has transpired. I started with the University of Phoenix in July 2006. This was after I had been out of school for 25 years and my study habits, learning habits, and math knowledge had grown extremely rusty. It actually scared me to death at the thought of starting school all over again at the age of 43. All through my life I had given some thought to going back to school but had never really found a desired subject I wanted to study. This was until I started working with children ho have disabilities whether it is physical or mental. The desire starting growing even more when I became a service provider and started working with children who have ADHA, ODD, anger management issues, depression, and the list could go on. I knew then I wanted to work with and help these children.

I had two years of work experience in this area I wanted to study, but I did not understand how to help the children form start to finish. Class after class I started to understand how to help each child. I was starting to understand their diagnosis, what it meant, how it affected them, and how to help through tough times. I could...
