Abstract

This case study attempts to explore the correlation between Janet lifelong alcohol usage and family history of alcoholism. Therapy was initiated by the client due to personal battles with addition issues over the past several years with alcohol and drug addiction. This case study seeks to determine the cause, effect, and treatment options for Janet. The self-help treatment program offers help to client to recognize determining risks that contributed to the development of substance and drug addiction. Diagnosis for treatment plan was drawn based on answers given during assessments; examine interviews, and a time line that appears to suggest a correlation of addiction with Janet’s childhood. The key goal of the self-help addiction program is to help Janet achieve and maintain abstinence from addictive chemicals and irregular behaviors. The program will also help Janet recover from past traumatic experiences that has created damage, and has cause addition to the client’s life. Within this self-help addiction counseling model, Janet will become the agent of change.

Personal information

Addiction counseling recognizes the symptoms of alcohol and drug addiction and associated areas of abuse functions and the content and arrangement of client’s ongoing recovery program (Miller, W. R, 2011). Client Janet will be put on a time limited approach that focuses on her behavioral change, 12- step program along with self-help involvement. First session of counseling Janet I will examine determining factors in Janet’s substance and drug abuse risk. During the first session of counseling the counselor will collect basic cultural information, personal background information like past traumatic experiences, sexual abuse, and family background. Evaluating Janet marital status, mental health problems, education, financial situation, helps the counselor understand Janet reasoning for change. The...
