Police Influence on Society

Abstract

This paper is about how the police force influences society. It will discuss racism, and how it has affected today’s society. The paper will go over history and how it has led up to this point in today’s generations. There will also be examples given to show the valid points. This paper will also discuss discrimination and segregation. How we have allowed this to take place in America the mixing pot.

This paper is about the influence of the police force on society. The history of the police force has its origins that bares great impact on its progressive influence on how society and the world. The American police force adopted the New England system of law enforcement. American laws were formed based on the laws of New England; however, the American judicial system enforces its laws with more severity. Considering its ancient roots, the police force has also evolved into various phases.

Taken from the New England laws, America became what everyone calls a mixing bowl. This meant that different races and cultures will be combined and new races are made. Prior to the Civil War, blacks were not imprisoned for any of their crimes because they were owned by whites. This was what we called the slavery period. If crimes were committed then the owners would take care of the punishment. After the Civil War and the slaves became free, if they committed crime then they were leased out to owners to work off their convictions. Some were set to mining fields, railroads buildings and when war was going on they were the next ones sent out.

So this society is very diverse and the police are patrolling a variety of different neighborhoods and it has not been a pleasant history.
