What some Canadian Companies are doing to Retain Employees

This report analyzes what companies are doing in Canada to retain their good employees.

Employee Retention involves taking measures to encourage employees to remain in the organization for the maximum period of time. Companies are facing a lot of problems in employee retention these days. Hiring knowledgeable people for the job is essential for an employer. But retention is even more important than hiring. There is no dearth of opportunities for a talented person. There are many organizations which are looking for such employees. If a person is not satisfied by the job he’s doing, he may switch over to some other more suitable job. In today’s environment it becomes very important for organizations to retain their employees.

So many companies are discovering how to retain employees simply by creating motivating workplace and job redesign. (Frank 2004)

Retention is the percentage of employee remaining in an organization, while turnover is the exact opposite; it refers to the percentage of employees that leaves a company for whatever reasons.

1.1 Being Forthright with Employees during the Interview

Too many organizations oversell a job, during the interview just to ensure the candidate is attract to the job. Many recruiters will say anything to make the job sound appealing to an applicant during the interview to persuade them to take the job. People know and understand that every job has good and not-so-good aspects, and when interviewing, they expect to hear it all. If the applicant begins work and realizes that the actual job fails to live up to the promises, then that disappointment and frustration can easily lead to the new hire leaving within a year.
