1. What are the key features of flex time, compressed work weeks and job sharing plans. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these approaches to scheduling employees.

Flex Time- It is a variable work schedule which is different from the traditional work schedule arrangements requiring employees to work a standard 9am to 5pm per day. It is still expected that the employee reach the standard 80 hours per month work input.

Advantages- There are many advantages in promulgating a flextime work schedule. One of the main advantages is that you can retail key employees who can’t work the regular hours. This is popular for employees who have other responsibilities like family, social and community. It also enhances recruitment as it will attract employees who are looking for flexible work hours. It also reduces tardiness and absenteeism in the workplace. Flextime can also increase service hours for your company since you will have employees working earlier or later than the regular business hours.

Disadvantages- As with advantages flextime also has some drawbacks which can affect productivity in the workplace. Under the flextime, more responsibility will be under the person who coordinates schedules with the staff. It will be harder to coordinate meetings and other task that needs the attendance of all employees. There will also be times when the workplace will be lacking supervision and understaffing

can also occur under flextime. Keeping track of employees under flextime will also be difficult and can be prone to abuse such us underreporting of work time.

Job Sharing Plans- This allows two employees to share job responsibilities of one full time position. Job sharing is different from part time work. It requires a team approach in performing job duties hence job shares must share good communication skills and can work as a group.
